Golf Team White Division Champs

The South Plainfield High School Golf Team finished the season 19-4. With a 141-147 win over Watchung Hills, the golf team finished another winning season. Watchung Hills won the first match early in the season. Led by senior Brad Martin's even par 33 and Vinnie Padula's 1-over par 34, the GMC division champs won their last match of the season. Richie Szeliga chipped in with a 36 and JR Licato and Andrew Gray shot 38's. On May 22, in the wind and rain, the golf team finished second to East Brunswick in the GMC Tournament held at East Brunswick's home course. The Tigers were led by JR Licato's 83. Fine rounds were also turned in by Richie Szeliga who shot an 84, Vinnie Padula and Andrew Gray had 87's and Brad Martin's 94.

With only eight teams qualifying for the tournament, 15 teams were eliminated by a playoff system. The team and coach were pleased with the results. South Brunswick, St. Joe's and Middlesex were all close to South Plainfield's 341 with 344 and 346. The White Division champs will be looking to repeat this year's showing with a new cast as JR Licato, Vinnie Padula, Brad Martin, Andrew Gray and Zach Olim all graduate in June.
